Fit matters more than anything else on a bicycle, because a bike that does not suit you will not get ridden. Wheel size and frame size are different things, so ask for both along with your own height rather than judging from a photo. Check the number of gears and whether they change cleanly through the range, and look at the chain and sprockets for wear. Test both brakes and ask whether they are rim or disc brakes, since pads for the two are not interchangeable. Spin each wheel to see whether it runs straight, and check the tyres for cracking, which is common on a bike that has been stored a long time.
