Match the truck to the work before anything else, since a vehicle that is wrong for the job is expensive whatever it costs. Confirm the payload and the axle configuration, and check the vehicle is licensed for the loads you intend to carry. Odometer readings tell you less on a truck than the state of the engine, gearbox, chassis and suspension, so ask for service history and inspect underneath for rust, cracks and welded repairs. On a tipper or tanker check the body and hydraulics separately from the cab. Confirm inspection status and that the paperwork is in the seller's name.
